The French Embassy is particularly
proud and happy to support this
"Rendez-vous with French Cinema".
THis festival will showcase the
latest productions of an innovative,
diverse and dynamic french film
industry. It will be an important
moment of the Indo-French cultural
relationship, for which cinema is
some of the strongest underpinning
ties. Once again, Indian moviegoers
will be offered to delve further
into France's cinematic tradition,
to feel its inimitable touch, to
enjoy its never bland, sometimes
spicy, always witty taste.

It
is with modesty and also,
with great hope, that Unifrance,
in collaboration with the
Embassy of France, is organizing
this first Rendez-vous avec
le Cinéma Français
in Mumbai, India.
Hope to convince spectators
accustomed to local productions
that films coming from France
are going to move them,
surprise them, affect them.
Modesty is called for because
we know that is simply because
India is the first international
market for cinema, for the
number of films produced
and for the sheer number
of spectators.
With this event and with
the full support of Indian
distributors (Alliance,
Palador, Shermaroo, Star
Entertainment), we are taking
up the challenge. Seven
films will be screened in
the presence of a French
artistic delegation: "Azur
et Asmar" by Michel
Ocelot, "Caramel"
by Nadine Labaki, "Chrysalis"
by Julien Leclercq, "Le
Concile de Pierre"
by Guillaume Nicloux, "Ils"
by David Moreau and Xavier
Palud, "Roman de gare"
by Claude Lelouch and "La
Science des rêves"
by Michel Gondry . These
films will then be released
throughout the country,
having already been popularized
at the Festival.
For this first Festival,
we needed an exceptional
event. "Astérix
aux Jeux Olympiques",
one of the most awaited
French films of the year,
will have its world première
in Mumbai in the presence
of Jérôme Seydoux,
President of the French
delegation.
French cinema is proud of
the diversity of its productions,
its actors and producers.
We look forward eagerly
to meeting the Indian public,
journalists and students
and especially during the
Festival master-classes.
And our greatest hope is
that this first encounter,
will permit us to return
to Mumbay and to other towns
every year in order to strengthen
the link between two cinemas
that are so independent
and so special

President, Unifrance
